The name biloba, derived from the Latin bis and lobus, refers to the shape of the leaves divided into two lobes. Ginkgo was imported from the East in the mid-18th century. It is very resistant to drought, cold and atmospheric pollution, it is mainly used as an ornamental plant and is considered a fossil plant as it was already present when only ferns and horsetails were found on earth and it has remained the only genus of its species.
