Magnesium is an essential mineral in metabolic processes as regards the formation of glucose and protein synthesis (in fact by controlling the level of sugar in the blood, it prevents the onset of diabetes). For the nervous system it is essential in managing the transmission of nervous stimuli to the muscles and in the communication between neurons and muscle cells (natural calming action, directly intervening in the formation of serotonin which relieves states of depression, anxiety, irritation and stress) . It is also essential in the assimilation of important vitamins (such as those of group B, C and E). At the cardio-circulatory level, it plays an essential role in managing the heartbeat, preventing heart attacks by controlling blood pressure, as well as for the solubility of calcium in the urine (thus preventing the formation of kidney stones). Magnesium in our body resides above all at the cellular level (about 70% in the bones and about 29% in the muscles, which contributes to their formation) and only 1% at the plasma level. For this reason, magnesium prevents osteoporosis and the appearance of caries (fixing calcium and phosphorus in the bones and teeth). It also acts as a body PH rebalancer and as a stomach acid controller for proper digestion. Last but not least, magnesium acts on the formation of melatonin, relieving the disturbances that prevent normal sleep.

The magnesium requirement for the human body is approximately 300 mg, more precisely the requirement is 5-6 mg per kg of the individual. Normally through food it is possible to absorb about 100 mg, so in the literature the integration of 200mg per day is considered optimal. Recent studies highlight the positive influence of Magnesium on testosterone synthesis in humans, in metabolic inflammation and in the presence of ROS Magnesium (but also selenium and zinc) interacts with anabolic hormones especially testosterone and the growth factor insulin -like (IGF-1). Hence the hypothesis that this interaction is able to ensure optimal physical performance. The thesis regarding a link between magnesium and testosterone has been investigated in human studies showing higher levels of testosterone in subjects who received magnesium supplementation. Furthermore, magnesium and testosterone levels are low in inflammatory states and in conditions of increased ROS. Aging is partially attributed to defects in anabolic hormones and moderate inflammatory states as well as an often inadequate nutritional status.
