Chronic Pain

Pain is one of the most frequent reasons for which we turn to the doctor. Often only when it becomes serious is it also experienced with psychological intensity and not only health.

Chronic pain , unlike acute pain with a rapid onset, can manifest itself slowly and is related to many pathological conditions, for example musculoskeletal, neuropathies, diseases such as diabetes, infections, wounds, herpes zoster, tumors, etc.

Pain management therefore requires a multidisciplinary approach, ranging from medications to rehabilitation, lifestyle changes in movement and diet, and the use of specific methods to restore functionality.

Supplementation can be useful, preceded by a correct laboratory and medical diagnostic procedure, to support the organism in its recovery if in acute form, and over time if in chronic form.

Chronic pain is pain that persists for months or years, even after an injury or disease has healed. It can have various causes and negatively affect the quality of life of those who suffer from it. There is no single, definitive cure for chronic pain, but there are several strategies that can be adopted to relieve and manage it. Some of these are:

Medicines to relieve pain (analgesics), such as acetaminophen, ibuprofen, opioids, antidepressants, or anticonvulsants. These medications should be prescribed by a doctor and used with caution, as they can have side effects or be addictive.

Physical methods, such as physical therapy or occupational therapy, to improve the function and mobility of the body parts affected by pain. These methods may include exercise, massage, manipulation, heat therapy, cryotherapy, or ultrasound.

Complementary and integrative pain relief techniques, such as acupuncture , massage, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation (TENS), meditation, yoga, hypnosis, or biofeedback. These techniques can help relax the body and mind, reduce stress , and increase a sense of control over pain.

Lifestyle changes, such as healthy eating , regular physical activity, adequate sleep, reduction of alcohol and tobacco consumption, emotional management, and social support. These changes can help improve overall well-being, prevent or treat other pain-related diseases, and build resilience.

The treatment of chronic pain must be personalized based on the characteristics and needs of each person. For this reason, it is important to consult a doctor or a center specialized in pain therapy, who can evaluate the situation and propose the most suitable treatment plan. Furthermore, it is essential that the person suffering from chronic pain is actively involved in his or her treatment and collaborates with the healthcare team, following the instructions and communicating any difficulties or improvements.

Chronic pain can be a difficult challenge to deal with, but not impossible. With the right help and a willingness to change, you can achieve significant relief and a greater quality of life.
