The Indian Madder is a climbing plant of the Rubiaceae family; from its root a natural red dye is obtained. It is also known by the name of Garanza, or by the name Manjistha, in Ayurveda. Promotes healing of skin tissue damaged by injury or infection. Detoxifies and nourishes at the same time.
Manjistha powder is commonly used to help lighten dark spots on the skin and other types of discoloration.
Use manjistha powder in combination with Rosa Damascena powder to make a healing and refreshing face pack.
HAIR: It has a purifying effect on the scalp and makes the hair shiny and soft. Strengthens tissue and protects against itching.
DYEING NOTES: Suitable for obtaining bright red tones. It is possible to vary the shade by acting on the pH of the environment in which we prepare the powder: by adding lemon juice and letting the madder oxidize for at least 12 hours, we obtain warmer shades, while by adding a teaspoon of bicarbonate, we obtain colder shades.
Robbia's dyeing power is not very high and is not permanent; for this reason it can also be mixed with Henna, varying the percentages to obtain very warm coppery tones.
Recommended for blond and very light brown hair to obtain blond, golden or warm tones. By adding Turmeric or Rhubarb, orange hues will be obtained instead. In combination with Cassia it is useful for reviving blonde tones.
SKIN: In addition to its dyeing properties, madder is useful on skin affected by dermatitis, psoriasis, vitiligo, acne or eczema. It also tends to make the complexion more homogeneous, eliminating imperfections and compacting the complexion.
HISTORY and CURIOSITIES: its name in Sanskrit is Manjishta. In Ayurveda it is considered the main remedy for purifying the body of toxins.
INSTRUCTIONS FOR USE: Mix the powder with boiling water, until you obtain a paste with the consistency of a yogurt for bright tones, or more liquid for mild colours. Leave to macerate for 15 minutes, well covered, then apply the paste to dry hair. Add any other Herbs for a synergistic effect. Leave on for at least 2 hours as a dye pack. A final rinse with water and vinegar helps keep the hair shiny and soft. As a face mask, mix with Herbs and/or Clays to avoid unpleasant chromatisms. Leave on for 10 minutes without letting the mask dry, but keep the skin moist by dispensing water or Acque Florali.
Avoid contact with eyes and mouth.
Please note: the madder proposed here is Rubia cordifolia and not Rubia tincoria considered toxic and whose use is not permitted as a supplement or as a cosmetic.
